Pyrogen-Free Steam Generation for Sterilisation-in-Place & Autoclave Applications

A Pure Steam Generator (PSG) produces clean, pyrogen-free steam whose condensate meets Water for Injection quality, for use in the direct or indirect sterilisation of pharmaceutical equipment, vessels, piping, filters, and autoclave loads. Feed water — purified water or WFI — is boiled using plant steam as the heating medium in a shell-and-tube or column-type generator; an entrainment separator removes water droplets and dissolved solids to prevent carryover, while non-condensable gases (which impair sterilisation efficacy) are continuously vented. The resulting pure steam is distributed through an insulated, sloped piping network fitted with steam traps to points of use such as autoclaves, sterilise-in-place (SIP) vessel jackets, and filter housings.

  • Key Features — Generation

    • Single or multi-effect column/shell-and-tube design for high steam purity and low carryover
    • Integral entrainment/moisture separator to prevent dissolved-solids carryover into pure steam
    • Continuous non-condensable gas (NCG) venting to maintain sterilisation efficacy
    • SS316L contact parts, orbital-welded construction, minimal hold-up volume
    • PLC-based automatic level, pressure, and blowdown control

  • Key Features — Distribution

    • Insulated, sloped distribution header for continuous condensate drainage (no water hammer)
    • Steam traps at all low points and use points to remove condensate without steam loss
    • Pressure-reducing stations for use points requiring lower operating pressure
    • Condensate quality monitoring (conductivity/TOC) to verify ongoing WFI-equivalence

  • Typical Applications

    • Autoclave/terminal sterilisation of components, garments, and filling-line parts
    • Sterilise-in-place (SIP) of process vessels, reactors, fermenters, and piping
    • Sterilisation of sterilising-grade filters and filling-line assemblies prior to aseptic use
